A political pressure group in Osun State, Omoluabi Progressives, has called upon security agencies to investigate alleged threats made by Mr. Ismail Omipidan, media aide to Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, against the former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, the State capital, Abosede Oluwaseun, the organizing and publicity secretary of Omoluabi Progressives, expressed concerns over recent comments made by Omipidan, urging law enforcement agencies to probe the situation.
Oluwaseun stated, “We have officially submitted a petition to the Department of State Security, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps regarding recent threats made against our grand patron, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.”
The petition highlights remarks attributed to Omipidan in a widely circulated article, which the group interprets as implying a potential threat to Aregbesola’s life.
“We take the safety and security of our members and leaders very seriously. Therefore, we have urged the security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into Mr. Omipidan’s statements,” Oluwaseun emphasized.
In response, Omipidan denied any knowledge of a petition against him, describing the allegations as “malicious and unguarded.” He asserted his innocence, stating, “Only an unstable mind and character would accuse a person of my standing… of an alleged threat to the life of a former governor, a former minister.”
Asserting his commitment to legal recourse, Omipidan declared, “If this strategy is aimed at preventing me from pressing charges… it has failed. I will press charges.”
He also cautioned security operatives to remain vigilant, suggesting that his accusers might have ulterior motives.
