The Osun State Government has issued a stern warning to business owners to settle their tax obligations or face the shutdown of their businesses.

This announcement comes from the Osun Internal Revenue Service.

Oluwaseun Ayeni, Information Officer of OIRS, shared the news on Saturday. He said, “The Agency’s Chairman, Adesola Adewumi, has made it clear that businesses have been given enough time to comply with their tax duties.”

During an awareness campaign in Osogbo, Adewumi emphasized that businesses must fulfill their tax obligations by Monday, August 12. After this date, OIRS will start closing down businesses that have not paid their taxes.

Represented by Mr. Deji Atoyebi, Director of Legal and Enforcement at OIRS, Adewumi said, “The government will seal off defaulting business premises from Monday. This enforcement action was due in May but has been postponed.”

He added, “The board of OIRS has finalized plans to enforce tax compliance. We advise all tax-defaulting businesses to avoid any inconvenience by settling their dues before the closure begins.”

Adewumi urged businesses that have received harmonized demand notices to act quickly. “Businesses that have not yet received a harmonized demand notice should visit any OIRS tax station or go to www.ecg.ng/requestosunbill to request their notice,” he said.

The OIRS is taking these steps to ensure that all businesses meet their tax obligations and contribute fairly to the state’s revenue.
