The Osun State Government has sealed off a steel mill company in Ikirun, the headquarters of Ifelodun local government area, due to tax evasion.

The closure is part of the state’s ongoing tax enforcement efforts.

The Information Officer of the Osun Internal Revenue Service, Oluwaseun Ayeni, announced the action in a statement.

He explained that the sealing of the steel mill and other business premises is in line with the OIRS’s tax enforcement policy.

The tax enforcement team, led by the Executive Chairman of OIRS, Prince Adesola Adewumi, gave the order to seal the company because of its failure to pay taxes and respond to the harmonized demand notice from the state government.

“Prism Steel Rolling Mill and others have been served harmonized demand notices for quite some time to fulfill their statutory obligations to the coffers of the state government but failed to help themselves,” Prince Adewumi said. “The refusal to fulfill the companies’ responsibility to the state led to the sealing of the business premises.”

Prince Adewumi further explained that the state government had given businesses a deadline to pay their taxes, but some companies, despite the grace period provided by the state governor since the end of July, have not complied.

He urged all businesses in Osun State to meet their tax obligations promptly. “I implore all businesses in the state to rise up to their responsibilities without giving the state government the opportunity of running after them for any of their statutory obligations,” he added.
