The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has issued a stern warning to Governor Ademola Adeleke, cautioning him against any perceived plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to secure a second-term bid.
The warning comes in the wake of Governor Adeleke’s recent visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, Abuja.
Adeleke was accompanied by his elder brother, Adedeji, and his nephew, David, during the visit, which has sparked speculations about a potential move to the ruling party.
Addressing the media at the Tinubu/Shettima campaign office in Osogbo, a prominent APC chieftain in the state, Timothy Owoeye, dismissed any possibility of Governor Adeleke joining the APC.
He also declared that the party’s governorship ticket is not up for grabs.
“I’m saying this categorically that APC tickets are not for sale. As a matter of fact, as of today, we don’t see Adeleke as a member or part of APC as a party. Let me be sincere with you, the APC in Osun is the party to beat,” Owoeye said.
He further alleged that the Adeleke family and the PDP are being driven by fear of uncertainty, which he believes is behind their perceived interest in aligning with the APC.
“I want to tell you that if not because of the fear of the unknown that is disturbing the Adeleke family and the PDP, they wouldn’t have been showing the intention of coming to the APC,” he added.
Owoeye emphasized that the APC remains well-positioned to reclaim the state from the PDP in future elections and stated clearly that there is no opening within the APC for Governor Adeleke or other PDP members.
He reiterated, “There is no vacancy in the APC for PDP members and the governor to fill at the moment.”
