Assistant Inspector General of Police Patrick Ogon Edung has officially taken office as the 32nd AIG for Zone XI Command in Osogbo, according to a statement from the Zone XI Command Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Ayeni.
The Zone XI Command, covering Oyo and Osun Commands, welcomed AIG Edung, who enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a member of regular course 16 in 1990.
The statement highlighted his distinguished career, noting that he assumed duty on November 13, 2023, succeeding AIG Paul Ojeka Odama stating “The new AIG assumed duty on the 13th of November 2023, following the redeployment of AIG Paul Ojeka Odama psc. on 07/11/2023 to Zone 16 Command Yenagoa, South-South Nigeria, by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.
“AIG Patrick Ogon Edung hailed from Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State. He had his elementary education at St. Patrick Primary School, Egbe-mbube Ogoja and his secondary education at Maryknoll Secondary School Yala both in Cross River State.
“He equally had his A’ Level education at Cross River State School of Basic Studies Akamkpa before he proceeded to University of Ibadan (Premier University) in Oyo State for his degree program to bag Bachelor of Art (B.A. Hon) in History.”
Throughout his career, AIG Edung held various positions, serving in different capacities across the country.
His extensive experience includes roles as Divisional Traffic Officer in Abia State, Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State Command, and postings in Lagos State Command, among others.
He rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2013.
AIG Edung continued to contribute to the force, commanding the Police Training School in Benin City, serving as Area Commander in Jos Metro, and assuming responsibilities at the Police Academy Wudil Kano before his recent appointment as AIG for Zone XI Command in Osogbo.
The statement also highlighted AIG Edung’s commitment to professional development, noting his participation in training courses, including Community Policing Course for Divisional Managers at Police Staff College Jos.
