Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has successfully undergone surgery on Monday following an injury sustained during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg match against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Nigerian international was injured in an aerial clash with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté during the March 18 encounter. Despite attempting to play on with a bandaged arm, he was substituted at halftime as swelling and pain intensified.

Galatasaray lost the match 4-0, exiting the competition 1-4 on aggregate.

Confirming the operation in a statement on X, the Turkish club said: “Our player Victor Osimhen, who was injured and unable to continue in our away match against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, underwent a successful operation today at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital performed by our club doctor Op. Dr. Yener İnce.”

“We wish our footballer a speedy recovery and hope he returns to the pitch as soon as possible,” the statement added.

Despite their Champions League exit, Galatasaray will rely on Osimhen’s attacking prowess in their pursuit of the Super Lig and domestic cup titles. The club currently holds a four-point lead in the league.

Osimhen has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions this season. He also recorded seven goals and three assists in 10 UEFA Champions League matches before the team’s elimination.

The striker has been left out of Nigeria’s 23-man squad for this month’s friendly matches against Jordan and Iran, scheduled to be played in Turkey.
