Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, was sent off 23-minutes into Napoli’s 2-0 win over newly-promoted Venezia for supposedly punching Daan Heymans.
The Nigeria international appeared to shove Heymans doing a corner kick and caught the defender on the throat with a fist.
Adjudged to be a punch by the referee, as Heymans lay helplessly on the ground, Osimhen was handed a straight red card.
It is the second time that the Nigerian has been sent off in the Napoli jersey, after a second bookable offence in the Europa League win away to Real Sociedad in October 2020.
However, Luciano Spalletti celebrated his return to football with Napoli with a win despite playing three-quarters of the match with 10 men due to Osimhen’s sending off.
A hand ball from the opponent gave Napoli a penalty that was converted by Lorenzo Insigne in the 62nd-minute penalty.
Eljif Elmas doubled the lead 11 minutes later to earn Napoli a 2-0 win over the Serie A new comers.
