Popular Yoruba radio personality, Oriyomi Hamzat, has stirred reactions across social media following a video showing him publicly apologising to Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.
The apology was delivered during a live broadcast at Agidigbo FM, his radio station based in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In the viral video, Hamzat also announced the station’s decision to resume airplay of Naira Marley’s music, effectively ending a two-year ban on songs from the Marlian Records label.
The broadcaster explained that Naira Marley’s songs would now be played again on Agidigbo FM, and he led by example during the broadcast by playing one of the artist’s tracks.
The ban, initially imposed in September 2023, came in the wake of the controversy surrounding the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known professionally as Mohbad.
The late rapper had previously been signed to Naira Marley’s record label, and his death sparked widespread outrage and criticism, including calls for boycotts of Marlian music.
Hamzat’s public reversal of the ban has drawn mixed reactions, reigniting online conversations about the fallout of Mohbad’s death and the music industry’s response.
