Even though she couldn’t get her hands on the prize last year, Nigerian Grammy nominee, Faridah Seriki better known by her stage name Kah-Lo is showing no sign of stopping soon.
One of her latest single, Fasta is getting people running to the dancefloor effortlessly. That is quite expected as Kah-Lo specialises in vocals for dance tunes. That’s exactly what got her the Grammy nomination in the first place. Kah-Lo, an alumna of Vivian Fowler Memorial College for girls, Lagos, was nominated in the Best Dance Recording category for her work in “Rinse & Repeat” alongside British Disk Jockey, Riton.
Fasta is a dance track too, but the interesting thing about it is that it samples a play song popular in Nigeria around the late 1980s and early 1990s. The song was popular among primary school children, maybe secondary school pupils too.

For folks who remember the song and how they used to sing and jump to the tune back then it is sure to strike a chord when they see her latest performance of the song somewhere outside Nigeria. She got the Americans (maybe Europeans) opening, kicking and dancing to the tune like its fresh.
She is not the first to sample songs that bring childhood memories to many people. Serial street hitmaker, Olamide did the same thing in Bobo while Davido also sampled Yoruba folk songs in his early hit Damiduro and Skelewu
