Onyeka Onwenu to be buried today in Lagos

Nigeria’s beloved music icon, Onyeka Onwenu, known as the “Elegant Stallion,” will be laid to rest today in Lagos.

Onwenu passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72 after collapsing at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She died at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja.

The funeral service for Onwenu will take place at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, as announced by her family.

Following the service, a private burial will be held at a vault in Ikoyi. According to reports from CKN News, the Service of Songs is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and end at 12 noon, with the burial set for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Onyeka Onwenu was a multi-talented artist known for her many hits as a musician, but her contributions extended beyond music.

She was also a respected broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist. Onwenu’s remarkable career left a lasting impact on the Nigerian entertainment industry.

She is survived by her two sons, who, along with fans and loved ones, will be paying their final respects to the music legend today.
