ONE YEAR AFTER BAGGING NLNG PRIZE FOR LITERATURE! Poet Ikeogu Oke dies at 51

Ikeogu Oke, an award-winning poet and winner of the 2017 NLNG Prize for Literature, has died at the age of 51.

According to the Cable, the poet died in Abuja on Saturday, where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Oke gained prominence after he won the Nigeria Prize for Literature for his book, The Heresiad.

He was giving a cheque of $100,000 (N37m) by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited.

His poems and other writings have appeared in journals, anthologies and other publications worldwide.

The 51-year-old poet has performed his poems at various fora in Nigeria, South Africa and the United States.
