A one-storey building under construction collapsed on Sunday afternoon in the Idi-Araba area of Mushin, Lagos State, trapping several people under the rubble.

The incident happened around midday, and emergency workers rushed to the scene to begin rescue efforts.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Shakiru Amodu, said one male adult had already been rescued alive.

“A male adult has been rescued while efforts are ongoing to rescue other victims trapped under the rubble,” Amodu said.

He added that the collapsed building was still under construction and had only reached the first floor before the tragedy occurred.

As of the time of this report, it was not clear how many people were still trapped beneath the debris.

Rescue workers, including firefighters and other emergency responders, continued their search through the rubble in hopes of saving more lives.

Residents of the area gathered around the scene, watching and praying as the operation went on.

Building collapses are a serious problem in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, often linked to the use of poor-quality materials, weak supervision, and lack of proper approval from building authorities.

Authorities have promised to continue the rescue operation and investigate the cause of the collapse once the situation is under control.
