One missing in Lagos boat accident

A passenger ferry collided with an unexpected shoreline concrete near the power line corridor at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos, resulting in a boat accident.

The incident occurred today, and according to the Lagos State Waterways Authority, 15 individuals have been rescued, while one person is still missing.

The passenger ferry, named Tee Ben, was en route to Ibeshe and had departed from Addax jetty.

The collision with the unforeseen shoreline concrete took place at approximately 6:50 pm. LASWA’s statement revealed that one passenger sustained an injury, and efforts are ongoing to locate the missing individual.

Wuraola Alake, from the Public Relations Unit of LASWA, stated that the Search and Rescue Unit of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, the Marine Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, and other relevant agencies are actively engaged in ongoing rescue operations at the accident site.

The statement reads: “About 15 out of the 17 passengers said to be on board this boat have been rescued, with one casualty confirmed, while rescue efforts are still ongoing as at the time of writing this statement.”

Authorities are diligently working to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved in the accident.
