Residents of Ayegunle Bunu in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State were thrown into panic after armed bandits stormed the community in the early hours of the day, disrupting the area’s peaceful atmosphere.
Sources said one resident, whose identity had yet to be confirmed at the time of filing this report, was killed during the attack.
The assailants also reportedly abducted a man, his wife, and about 30 other persons at gunpoint.
The attackers were further said to have mounted a roadblock along a nearby highway, where they intercepted commercial vehicles and forcibly took away passengers onboard.
As of press time, the exact number of residents and travellers kidnapped during the operation had not been officially determined, according to Guardian.
The invasion, which reportedly occurred around 2:25 a.m., also left several residents with varying degrees of injuries.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oyiza Saliu, could not be reached by telephone to confirm the incident and provide details on the casualties at the time of this report.
