A fatal crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has left one person dead and nine others injured after a truck and commercial bus collided near New Garage on Saturday morning.
Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson, Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the accident happened at about 6:55 a.m.
According to her, the crash involved a white Iveco truck with registration number MEK 34 XC and a white Toyota commercial bus, ENU 814 XJ.
“Tragically, one male passenger lost his life, while nine others—eight males and one female—sustained varying degrees of injury. No passenger escaped unhurt,” Jayeola said.
She explained that the FRSC rescue team swiftly moved the injured victims to the Emergency Centre in Ojota and Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to Real Divine Hospital Mortuary in Ibafo. The obstruction was cleared quickly to restore traffic flow.
The FRSC spokesperson added that the vehicles had been taken into custody by officers of the Motor Traffic Division, Ojodu Abiodun Police, as investigations continue.
“Preliminary findings point to speeding and road obstruction as the causes of the crash,” she said.
The Lagos Sector Commander of FRSC, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, described the accident as avoidable and extended condolences to the family of the deceased while praying for the recovery of the injured.
“Speeding remains a major cause of preventable crashes, especially in the ember months. Drivers must learn to exercise patience and full concentration behind the wheel,” Hamzat warned.
He assured Nigerians that the FRSC would remain committed to keeping highways safe and protecting lives and property.
