One killed as Police confirm raid of Auxiliary's residence

One yet-to-be-identified man has been killed by the personnel of the Oyo Police Command during a raid at the residence of a factional leader of the state’s Park Management System, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, also known as Auxiliary.

In a press statement issued by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Osifeso Adewale, the command stated that during the raid, which took place on Tuesday, 30th May 2023, at Auxiliary’s residence, law enforcement officials engaged in a gun battle with the suspect and his associates.

It also stated that while Auxiliary managed to evade capture, one member of his group was fatally wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

The police operation was a response to intelligence reports indicating that Auxiliary’s faction had planned coordinated acts of violence and civil disturbance in various parts of the state.

It also stated that the raid resulted in the recovery of an array of weapons, including firearms such as AK-47 rifles, pump-action rifles, and a cache of ammunition. Additionally, assorted charms, mobile phones, and a substantial sum of cash were confiscated as part of the operation.

The press statement partly reads, “Sequel to the above,on Tuesday 30/05/2023 in a strategic intelligence coordinated raid around his location at Diamond Hotel, Alakia-Isebo, under Egbeda LGA, (78) Seventy-Eight suspected hoodlums who had perfected plans to unleash mayhem at the early hours of today at Major parts of the Metropolis were arrested in possession of sophisticated firearms, (724) Seven Hundred and Twenty-four Cartridges assorted charms, (33) Thirty-three Mobile Phones, and a cash sum of about (#3,450,000) Three Million Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira Only.

“In addition, during the raid sophisticated firearms were recovered inside the hotel rooms and in the trunk compartment of parked vehicles within the hotel.

“Worthy of note is that, though the PMS Chieftain was able to escape with some of his boys during the gun duel with the Police. However, a member of the group was neutralized in a gun duel with the Police.”

The command also urged residents to provide any useful information that could aid in the arrest of Auxiliary and his accomplices.
