Unfortunately in the cause of this heated disagreement, a motorcyclist lost his life which caused serious problems.

As of the time of this incident, netizens have been advised to stay off the road as it is currently blocked and unsafe.

“The situation is due to a clash between motorcycle riders and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The riot has spread to Alaba-Rago area — directly opposite LASU — and the popular Volks bus stop,” Ibrahim said.

“The road is currently blocked, and unsafe for movement. Tyres have been burnt, sporadic gunshots were also heard.”

“The riot ensued between the Hausa Okada Riders and Nurtw workers in the course of discharging their ticketing duty, a heated disagreement between the duo led to the death of one the Okada riders, being a Hausa man.”

Ibrahim further stated that the tension was initially inundated by nearby soldiers but that wasn’t enough to contain the situation.

“Soldiers intervened to secure peace and dispersed them with tear gas, the aggrieved parties retreated, only for the Okada men to troop back to Volks to challenge the NURTW members, which led to riot as onlookers fled for their respective lives.”

Lagos Police spokesperson, Adejobi Olumuyiwa, has commented on the incident via his Twitter account.

“Normalcy has been restored to Iyana Iba, Okokomaiko and the axis. We are on top of the situation. No ethnic colouration. Everyone to continue his or her business. No cause for alarm. We will update u the details soon. Thanks.,” said Olumuyiwa.
