One dies as correctional service bus crashes in Kwara

A Nigerian Correctional Service bus transporting suspects to court on Thursday plowed into a crowd of people at Oja Oba Market in Ilorin, Kwara State resulting in a fatal accident.

According to Vanguard, the accident resulted in the loss of one life and left numerous individuals injured, while many others hurriedly sought safety.

Eyewitnesses at the scene revealed that the Correctional Service bus was driving at high speed against the flow of traffic when the calamity occurred.

They claimed the bus had departed from Okekura Correctional Service and was moving swiftly.

Witnesses recounted that the bus’s driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the tragic collision with pedestrians, particularly okada riders, small-scale traders, and passers-by along the road.

One eyewitness noted that the accident claimed the life of one person instantaneously, and two additional individuals, who remain unidentified, suffered severe injuries and were promptly transported to the hospital.

Ajayi Okasanmi, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating, “Yes, we are aware. We are on it and will give details as soon as we finish the investigation.”
