One person has been confirmed dead and three others rescued after a building under construction collapsed on Sunday at Idi Araba, Mushin area of Lagos State.
Wuzup Nigeria had previously reported the one-storey building, located at 96 Ishaga Road, came down at about 3:30 pm on Sunday while construction workers were on site.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, the rescue team arrived shortly after receiving the distress call.
“So far, one person has been confirmed dead, while three others have been rescued alive,” said Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Coordinator.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed the death. Spokesman Shakiru Amodu stating, “Unfortunately, one adult male has been recovered dead.”
Director of the fire service, Margaret Adeseye, explained that the building was still under construction before it collapsed.
“Three adult males were rescued from the rubble with different degrees of injury,” she said. “They were first treated at the scene and later taken to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.”
She added that multiple response teams were involved in the rescue effort, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Nigeria Police, and Isolo Fire Station.
As of press time, emergency teams were still working at the site to ensure no other victims were trapped.
Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the collapse, but an investigation is expected to follow.
