A yet-to-be-identified man lost his life, and three others were injured in a multiple-vehicle accident near the Otedola Bridge in Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the tragic incident on Tuesday through its Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the accident involved four articulated trucks laden with containers. The crash occurred while officials were still recovering a fallen 40-foot container at the same location.

“In an overnight operation to recover a fallen 40-foot container for onward transmission to LASTMA’s office in Oshodi, a multiple accident occurred along the same axis on Otedola Bridge,” he said.

Initial investigations revealed that reckless driving was the main cause of the crash. The force of the collision caused the trucks to get stuck together, leading to severe damage.

“One adult male was extricated from beneath the first accident truck but unfortunately lost his life. Three other adult males sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.

Two of the injured victims, who were in serious condition, were rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre after receiving first aid at the scene.

“The rescued accident victims were given immediate medical care and taken to the hospital,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.

He also confirmed that the body of the deceased was recovered and handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps for further action.

LASEMA assured the public that safety measures were activated to prevent further incidents.

“All affected trucks have been successfully recovered and moved to a layby. The road has been cleared and reopened for safe vehicular activities,” the LASEMA official said.

He urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules to avoid such tragic incidents in the future.
