A tragic car accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway near Buhari Estate, Age-Mowo, has left one man dead and another critically injured.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Badagry Command, confirmed the incident on Monday, attributing the crash to excessive speeding.

The Unit Commander, Williams Manga, explained, “The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, and we received a distress call at 8:40 p.m. We responded immediately and arrived at the scene within 10 minutes.”

The crash involved a Lexus car without a registration number. “The driver lost control due to speeding, leading to his death, while the other occupant suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries,” Manga said.

Efforts to transport the deceased to the hospital, however, were disrupted when the victim’s family members and local youths blocked the expressway. They insisted the body should not be taken to the mortuary.

“They acted violently, preventing our team from carrying out its duties. To avoid further escalation, our officers withdrew from the scene,” Manga explained.

The injured passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical care. The wrecked car was later cleared from the scene.

Manga urged the public to cooperate with emergency responders during such incidents. “Interfering with rescue efforts hinders road safety and puts more lives at risk,” he said.

The FRSC continues to remind motorists to obey speed limits to prevent avoidable accidents.
