A two-storey building under construction has collapsed in the Ikota area of Ajah, Lagos, with an unspecified number of casualties feared.
The tragic incident occurred at Mega Mall Estate, Mobile Road, Inikpa Villa, Ikota.
The National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the collapse, with Lagos Office Coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, stating that the cause of the disaster remains unknown.
“Information indicates that more people are likely trapped in the rubble. A search and rescue operation is ongoing. An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse,”Farinloye said.
Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media show emergency teams working tirelessly to rescue individuals trapped beneath the debris.
This latest incident adds to the growing concern over structural integrity and building standards in Lagos.
Authorities have repeatedly warned against the use of substandard materials and non-compliance with safety regulations, but building collapses remain a recurring tragedy in the state.
Emergency responders continue to search for survivors, while an official probe is expected to uncover the circumstances that led to the disaster.
