One person has died after a multiple road crash involving a TATA bus and a mini bus at the Independence Tunnel inward Maryland along Ikorodu Road in Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, stating that the mini bus driver lost his life.

“A multiple road crash involving a TATA bus and a mini bus occurred at Independent Tunnel inward Maryland. The incident resulted in the death of the mini bus driver,” the agency stated.

LASTMA added that a tow truck is already at the scene for evacuation and its Rescue and Recovery Team is on the ground for vehicle removal and traffic control.

The agency also noted that transloading operations are ongoing for some drums that fell on the roadway at the Independence Tunnel en route to Ojota. “Our personnel are strategically positioned to ensure that traffic is unhindered,” LASTMA said.

Officials are continuing to monitor the situation as evacuation and recovery proceed.

This crash follows another recent fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the NASFAT junction in Ogun State, where the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed six deaths and two injuries after a collision between a Mazda commercial bus and a Volvo truck.
