Ondo toddler dumped in gutter, rescued

A three-year-old girl who was bound in the hands, legs, and dumped in Ondo gutter has been rescued.

The information was revealed by the management of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo State.

It was said that the little baby, named, Esther, had lost consciousness and almost died as she was tied in both hands and legs, put in a sac,k and dumped in a filthy gutter at the Ayeyemi area of Ondo town.

The Chief Medical Director of the UNIMEDTH, Dr Oluwole Ige, who disclosed this on Friday, said that the toddler was brought to the hospital after she was found unconscious abandoned in the gutter but was resuscitated by the team of medical workers in the teaching hospital, The PUNCH reports.

He said, ” On the 9th of July 2021 a three-year-old abandoned girl was found, dumped in erosion pathway at Ayeyemi, Ondo City and was brought to the UNIMED Teaching Hospital accident and emergency crash ward by a good Samaritan.

“The girl-child was brought unconscious, terribly cold, tied in both legs and arms inside a bag. Immediately, the UNIMED Teaching Hospital personnel swung into action to save the life of the dying child despite the Industrial strike action of the Medical doctors in the state.

“A critical medical care was given to her for days until she regained her consciousness up till today of her discharge.”

The CMD also revealed that the representative of the Ondo State Ministry Of Women Affairs and Social Development was invited by the teaching hospital to take up the continuous social management and care of the girl-child.

The rescued toddler was later handed over to the Director of Social Service Department in Ondo West Local Government, Mr Ariyo Idowu, for further care, who commended the teaching hospital for the medical care rendered to the abandoned child who might not have had a chance of surviving if the hospital had not stepped into her situation.
