A 36-year-old teacher, Emmanuel Ogunbameru, appeared before the Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Thursday, facing charges of alleged N760,000 fraud.

The defendant is accused of committing a felony and engaging in advance fee fraud, as outlined in the two-count charges brought against him.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, the defendant and another person, who is still at large, allegedly committed these crimes on April 17 around 10 a.m. at No. 96, Ikoya Road, Okitipupa, in the Okitipupa magisterial district.

Omoyeigha explained that the defendant deceitfully obtained the sum of N760,000 from one Oluwasegun Ehinmosan by pretending to help him purchase some goods but failed to do so.

The charges levelled against the defendant are in violation of Sections 516 and 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

During the court proceedings, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Mr. Philip Akinlosetu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 and required a surety to provide the same amount.

The surety must also reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of two years of tax payment to the state government.

The case has been adjourned until October 26 for further hearing.
