Officers of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a man who claimed to be an election observer at a polling unit at Unit 15 Ward 4, Shagari Market along the Owo- Benin Highway.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of Owo and Ose local government areas told journalists that the man was arrested by the police for vote-buying.
He said he was moving around with his team when he got to the settlement and saw that a man was about to be lynched.
He said his arrival at the scene saved the man from being killed by the angry mob.
But the man when contacted at the back of the police patrol van where he was put said he was observing the election and he drew the attention of the police to vote-buying at the unit.
He said he was attacked by some agents of a political party and was thankful that he was rescued by the CP.
He, however, refused to give his name and the election monitoring group he belonged to.
He said the police ought to have arrested those who he said wanted to buy votes at the unit but he was the only one arrested.
Another man arrested by the police, Geoffrey Emmanuel who described himself as a site engineer said he was arrested by the police without allowing him to identify himself.
He said he had the permit from the Inspector General of Police to move during elections but he was arrested.
