Agboola Ajayi, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Ondo State governorship election, has emerged victorious at his polling unit in Apoi Ward II, Unit 004, Kiribo, Ese Odo Council Area.
Ajayi secured 194 votes, defeating the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who scored just 3 votes. The Zenith Labour Party candidate came third with 1 vote.
Ajayi, who voted earlier in the day alongside his wife, was surrounded by tight security, including personnel from the Nigerian Police and Civil Defence Corps.
Speaking after casting his vote, Ajayi expressed frustration over a delay caused by a malfunctioning Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, which disrupted his accreditation process for about 10 minutes. He claimed the system was compromised and criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission for its handling of the election.
“The system has been compromised. It is sad INEC can’t conduct elections well in one state,” Ajayi said.
The PDP candidate also raised concerns about vote buying and alleged bias by INEC officials, particularly the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Olatoyin Babalola.
He stated, “We have said it severally that we don’t trust Barrister Olatoyin Babalola, that this woman can’t be fair. I think it is deliberate on the part of INEC and the REC. I have had series of complaints from across the state. People are complaining of vote buying. It is a very shameful exercise.”
The election results from other polling units are still being collated.
