The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Wale Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old Fisayo Ajetumobi to death during a fight over a debt.
Police spokesperson DSP Olushola Ayanlade said in a statement on Wednesday that the incident happened on September 13 at a construction site in Litaye Camp, Ondo East Local Government Area.
According to him, Ibrahim had gone to demand N14,000 from one Gabriel Oyeniran, money owed for wood he had earlier sold to him.
“One Wale Ibrahim of No. 50 Oreborede Street, Ondo, arrived at the site and demanded the sum of N14,000 from one Gabriel Oyeniran, being money owed for wood he had earlier sold to him,” Ayanlade explained.
“An altercation ensued between the duo of Wale and Gabriel, during which the suspect, Wale Ibrahim, became violent and stabbed one Fisayo Ajetumobi, aged 25 years, on the chest with a knife. Sadly, the victim sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot as a result of this unwarranted act of violence.”
The matter was reported to the police by one Akinsola Lukman of Areyetele Street, Sabo Road, Ondo, around 6:30 p.m.
Ayanlade confirmed that the suspect was arrested immediately and has been charged to court after investigation.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, as condemning the killing.
“The CP strongly condemns this senseless act of violence and reiterates that the command will not tolerate criminality in any form within the state,” the statement read.
Lawal urged residents to always avoid violence and seek lawful means to settle disputes.
“The CP is calling on residents to shun violence and always explore lawful means of resolving disputes. The CP further enjoins the public to continue to partner with the police by providing useful and timely information that can aid proactive crime prevention and effective policing of the state,” Ayanlade added.
