Judicial activities in Ondo State are set to grind to a halt as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter, declared an indefinite strike starting Thursday, June 13, 2025.
The action follows what the union describes as the state government’s failure to fulfill longstanding agreements.
According to a strike notice issued by the Ondo JUSUN Secretary, Alade Kehinde, and obtained by our correspondent, the union pointed to the expiration of a 7-day ultimatum issued on June 4, 2025. The notice also referenced the government’s continued neglect of unresolved provisions in the Memorandum of Understanding signed on May 20, 2015.
The notice read, “All members are directed to stay off duty starting from tomorrow, June 13, 2025, until further notice.” It further urged strict adherence to the strike guidelines while expressing appreciation for the cooperation of its members.
The strike is expected to disrupt operations across the state’s judicial system, including high courts, magistrates’ courts, and other judicial departments. It adds to a growing list of industrial actions by civil servants over unfulfilled welfare agreements with state governments.
JUSUN concluded its announcement with a defiant message: “A PEOPLE UNITED CAN NEVER BE DEFEATED!!!” — underlining the union’s determination to maintain the strike until their grievances are addressed.
As of press time, the Ondo State Government had not released any official statement in response to the development. Members of the public with pending court matters have been advised to seek alternative arrangements as the strike begins.
