An imam in Owo, Ondo State, Alhaji Abdulkareem Adedokun, has invoked curses on those responsible for killing his wife, Temitope Adedokun, and his son, Abdulmalik Adedokun, during a violent cult clash on January 6, 2025.
The tragic incident, which resulted in the deaths of four people, occurred when rival cult groups engaged in a confrontation in Owo town.
In response to the unrest, the Ondo State Government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the area. The state police command also confirmed the arrest of 19 suspects connected to the clash.
In a heartfelt Facebook post titled *Open Letter to the People of Owo Local Government in Ondo State, Home and Abroad, and the General Public on the Killing of My Wife and Son by Cult Members in Owo on 6th January 2025*, the imam expressed his grief and frustration.
He wrote, “I, Imam Alhaji Abdulkareem Adedokun, am using this medium to inform the general public about what cultists in Owo have done to me by killing my wife, Temitope Adedokun, and my little son, Abdulmalik Adedokun. On January 6, 2025, they invaded my wife’s shop and killed her and her son.”
The imam condemned those involved and accused politicians and traditional leaders of turning the tragedy into a political issue, despite knowing that his family had no connection to cult activities.
He went on to invoke curses on those responsible, stating, “I stand on the authority of my grandfather, Almustaph Adedeji Jika Anabi, who brought Islam to Owo and most parts of Ondo State, to lay a curse on the person who killed Temitope Adedokun and Abdulmalik Adedokun, all members of their cult gang, their supporters—including politicians and traditional leaders—and those protecting them from security agents, along with all their family members.”
He further declared, “From today, every child born into their family will die a mysterious death when they reach the age of my little Abdulmalik, whom they killed. From now until eternity, nobody will ever reverse this curse unless they can bring my little Abdulmalik back to life.”
The Ondo State Government and police authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to bring all culprits to justice.
The imam concluded his post with a plea: “God bless anyone who shares this post. Imam Abdulkareem Adedokun.”
