The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has criticised the resignation of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, describing it as a reflection of political opportunism ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Peter Obi had earlier announced his departure from African Democratic Congress on Sunday via his verified X account, citing internal challenges within the Labour Party.
In his statement, the former presidential candidate alleged that forces within the Nigerian state were responsible for creating divisions and hostility in the party, circumstances he said compelled his decision to leave.
He further claimed that similar issues appear to be emerging within the African Democratic Congress .
Responding through his own X handle, Onanuga dismissed Obi’s explanation and questioned his political consistency, characterising the move as part of a recurring pattern.
“We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob. Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow.
“He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC. He pursues the easy road, that will only lead him to doom, like in 2023. He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself. Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race,” he stated.
