Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has secured her place in the semifinals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In the heats, Amusan ran a strong 12.49 seconds, easily winning her race.
Alysha Johnson from the USA came in second with a time of 12.61 seconds, while Jamaica’s Janeek Brown finished third with 12.84 seconds.
Amusan’s time was the second-fastest overall, just behind Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the defending Olympic champion.
This is Amusan’s third consecutive appearance at the Olympics. She has been in excellent form leading up to the Games, including setting a world lead time of 12.40 seconds at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational in May.
Amusan, who also set the African indoor record for the 60m hurdles twice earlier this year, is among the favorites for the gold medal.
However, she faces tough competition from athletes like Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton and USA’s Alaysha Johnson.
The semifinals of the women’s 100m hurdles will take place on Friday, August 9, and the final is scheduled for Saturday, August 10.
Amusan, a three-time Diamond League winner and multiple gold medalist, continues to demonstrate her remarkable talent on the track as she aims for another Olympic success.
