Nigeria’s Odunayo Adekuoroye was defeated by China’s Hong Kexin in the women’s freestyle 57-kilogram event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Thursday.
In the quarter-final match held at the Champ-de-Mars Arena, Adekuoroye initially led but was later overtaken by Hong. The score was 8-10 in favor of the Chinese wrestler by the end of the bout.
Despite a strong start, Adekuoroye and Hong were tied at the end of the first period. However, Hong Kexin gained an advantage in the second period, scoring several technical points to secure her place in the semi-finals.
Adekuoroye had previously won her first-round match against Algerian Chaimaa Aouissi, who was injured during the bout.
According to reports, Adekuoroye hopes to compete for a bronze medal if Hong Kexin advances to the finals.
This would allow Adekuoroye to participate in the repechage round for a chance to win bronze.
