Olympics: Favour Ofili qualifies for 200m semi-finals
Nigeria’s Favour Ofili has qualified for the semifinals of women’s 200m at the ongoing Paris Olympics Games in France.
Ofili booked her place in the semi-final after executing a good race plan to win heat 6 in a time of 22.24s on Sunday morning.
Ofili’s winning time was only surpassed by American Gabby Thomas, who ran the fastest time of 22.20 seconds in heat 2, establishing herself as the favourite to win the 200m title.
With Shericka Jackson and Ta Lou withdrawing from the competition and Ofili’s convincing win over Asher-Smith, analysts believe she has a strong chance of winning a medal. Only Gabby Thomas and Julien Alfred are believed to pose major threats.
This win is coming after the 21 year old 21-year-old Ofili was denied participation in the 100-metre race at the ongoing Olympics in Paris due to administrative failures by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the Nigerian Olympic.
