Chinese athlete, Liu Shiying, has won the gold medal in the women’s javelin throw event at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
The 27-year-old who finished second at the 2019 World Championships upped her game at the Olympics to claim the gold medal by throwing 66.34 metres on her first attempt in the final.

Although she did not beat her personal best of 67.29 m that was set in 2020, the gold medallist at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2015 edged Poland’s Maria Andrejczyk who took silver with a best of 64.61m.
South African-born Australian Kelsey-Lee Barber, the reigning world champion, claimed bronze with a throw of 64.56m.
