The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, has suspended two traditional family heads, known as Mogajis, for their involvement in land grabbing and illegal land activities.

Those suspended are Mogaji Kamorudeen Kolawole of the Kukula family in Oke-Ofa Baba Isale, Ibadan North East, and Mogaji Samsudeen Bello of the Ekerin Ajengbe family in Isale Osi, Ibadan South West Local Government Area.

The Olubadan gave the order for their immediate suspension during a Land Matters Committee meeting held on Thursday at the Old Olubadan Palace, Oja Oba, Ibadan. The announcement was made public on Friday in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade.

Speaking through the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rasidi Ladoja, the monarch said the suspension would remain in place until the affected Mogajis corrected their actions.

“Your suspension order is indefinite until you retrace your steps and do the needful,” the Olubadan stated.

He further warned them against land grabbing, trespassing, and using their positions to oppress family members and other people in their communities.

“You have been told severally to desist from any act that can tarnish the reputation and image of the Olubadan and Ibadanland,” the monarch said.

The two Mogajis have also been ordered to stop wearing traditional beads or parading themselves as holders of Olubadan titles until the matter is resolved.

The Olubadan directed security agencies to arrest any of the suspended chiefs who continue to act as traditional title holders, saying no one is above the authority of the palace.

He also expressed disappointment at some Mogajis and Baales who failed to attend the meeting despite being invited. He warned that any traditional title holder who ignores palace invitations in the future risks losing their title.

“Their absence will be seen as a sign of disrespect to the traditional institution,” the Olubadan warned.

Present at the meeting were several key figures, including:

  • Oba Abiodun Kola Daisi, Ashipa Olubadan of Ibadanland
  • Oba Dauda Abiodun Azees, Ashipa Balogun of Ibadanland
  • Oba Salaudeen Hamidu Ajibade, Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland
  • Chief Isiaka Akinpelu, Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Matters
  • Mogaji Ariori of Olorisa family, President of the Association of Mogajis
  • Mogaji Adeleke Lukman, Secretary to the Committee
  • Mogaji Abdul Rasaq Akinola, Reporting Officer

The Olubadan urged all Mogajis and traditional leaders to protect the good name of Ibadanland and serve the people with honesty.
