Olubadan Oba Owolabi Olakulehin dies days after 90th birthday

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away just days after commemorating his 90th birthday.

The monarch, who was crowned in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.

His passing marks the end of a brief yet meaningful reign that spanned just one year.

Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin had only recently celebrated his milestone birthday before his sudden death.

Oba Olakulehin rose to the throne from the position of Balogun Olubadan after the death of his predecessor, Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who died on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.

He was officially installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland and presented with his staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024.

Details regarding funeral arrangements and succession plans are expected to be announced in the coming days.
