Old building in viral clip not where Super Eagles are lodged — NFF

The Nigerian Football Federation has defended the Super Eagles’ choice of hotel in Morocco following a viral video showing the team’s alleged poor lodging conditions.

A video shared by midfielder Alex Iwobi had sparked outrage online, with Nigerians expressing disappointment over the players’ welfare and the state of their accommodation ahead of Thursday’s playoff clash against Gabon.

However, the NFF explained that the video misrepresented the team’s actual hotel.

Football journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel quoted the Super Eagles’ media officer as saying, “The Super Eagles are camped at Rive Hotel. What trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window. Rive was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training facility and the stadium here in Rabat.”

The clarification came after several fans accused the football body of neglecting the team’s comfort despite the importance of the World Cup qualifiers.

The Super Eagles are in Rabat preparing for the playoff semi-final against Gabon after finishing second behind South Africa in Group C. The winner of the tie will face either DR Congo or Cameroon in the final round, with a spot in the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026 at stake.
