Governor Monday Okpebholo swift action aided the rescue of more than 10 victims of a road accident on the Benin–Auchi highway on Saturday.
The governor, who was heading to Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area with his team, ran into a heavy traffic jam after the bypass and stepped out of his car to check the cause.
On getting to the scene, he saw several passengers in pain, many bleeding and unable to move, while bystanders watched helplessly.
Eyewitnesses said the accident happened when the driver of a white Toyota Venza with Abuja plate number GWA 50 AW drove against traffic and rammed into three commercial minibuses filled with passengers. The crash left many injured and caused a long traffic jam.
One victim, a woman with deep cuts on her legs, was among those lifted into the vehicles for urgent medical care.

Motorists and residents at the scene clapped and praised the governor for not only stopping to help but also staying until all the injured were taken to a nearby hospital under security escort before he continued his trip.

As of the time of this report, neither the Federal Road Safety Corps nor the Edo State government has released an official statement about the incident.
