Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has declared a fresh war on cultists, kidnappers, and other criminals disturbing peace in the state.
He made the statement in Benin City after holding a closed-door meeting with commanders and top officials of the State Special Security Squad.
Speaking to journalists, the governor said the main focus was to boost efforts in stopping cult groups and kidnapping activities across Edo.
“We just concluded a very productive meeting centred on tackling cultism and kidnapping across Edo State,” Okpebholo said. “Our goal is to make this state safe for every resident and visitor. This is essential to building a vibrant economy and restoring public confidence.”
He added that the meeting helped security leaders agree on new steps to strengthen their fight against criminals.
The Edo Special Security Squad includes officers from the Nigerian Army, Police, NSCDC, local hunters, vigilantes, and some reformed ex-cultists. Their operations have recently led to several arrests and raids on criminal hideouts.
