Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved a new minimum wage of ₦75,000 for workers in the state.
He made the announcement on Thursday, May 1, during this year’s Workers’ Day celebration held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
“Today, I am proud to announce that our administration has approved a new minimum wage of seventy-five thousand naira. It’s our way of saying thank you,” the governor told the cheering crowd of workers and supporters.
Governor Okpebholo said the decision is part of his administration’s plan to ease the financial struggles faced by workers in the state.
“We believe this will make a real difference for Edo workers. And in return, we count on your renewed dedication as we build a better Edo together,” he added.
The announcement was received with loud cheers, as many workers expressed joy and appreciation for the government’s move to improve their standard of living.
The new wage is one of the highest announced by any state in the country so far and comes at a time when many Nigerians are battling rising living costs.
Okpebholo urged workers to continue supporting his administration and promised more efforts to make life better for residents of the state.
