Okada Ban: Twitter users trend ‘Dear Lagosians’ to advise, mock stranded commuters
Just as projected by some social media users, the ban on Okada and Keke in some areas in Lagos State by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration has started having a harsh effect on residents.
Since the ban took effect on Saturday, residents have been groaning and lamenting the hardship experienced in moving around the city without the availability of motorcycles and tricycles.
Before now, residents move around in Keke and Okada in many of the routes where their operations have been banned.
Videos emerged on social media on Monday morning of residents trekking several miles to get to major bus stops where they would get buses to their place of work.
As the effect continues to bite harder, many social media users have taken to Twitter with different hashtags to console those affected by the ban, offer advice on how to cope with the new law, while some are poking fun at the development.
Among the trending topics related to the ban is ‘Dear Lagosians’, presently trending at number one spot on Twitter in Nigeria.
Twitter users are using the topic to address and advise some residents stranded on the road, while residents of other states are under the trending topic mocking Lagosians and advising them to relocate to Ibadan and other parts of the country.

Dear Lagosians please stay strong. The amount of people at the bus stops this morning are enormous and most are going far, if at all you get a bus, you’ll pay extra cos they know you don’t have another alternative to go far.

Dear Lagosians, kindly stay safe out there. Don’t accept every lift offer you get from any vehicle when trekking to your bus stop or office.
It’s better to trek few distances than to get missing.
Stay safe and observant.?— Tife? (@Tife_fabunmi) February 3, 2020
Dear Lagosians, when you’re in traffic and there’s no bike just remember that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a step
So walk it like I talk it ?

Dear lagosians @jidesanwoolu doesn’t realize that the weather isn’t favorable for this trekking, productivity at work would reduce due to tiredness , hereby creating a bad economic growth, loss of jobs would hike, we need to stop this madness with our voices. @segalink

Dear Lagosians without personal cars,
As you go about your hustle today to put food on your table, please be watchful & remain very vigilant.
While you trek, avoid plugging your earphones to your ear in order to stay very aware of the environment.
Safety first and Always ❤️
