As Nigeria struggles with high petrol prices and low crude oil production, oil workers have turned to prayer, hoping for divine intervention to help the country overcome its challenges.

The Petroleum Industry Christian Fellowship International held a three-day prayer session in Port Harcourt, bringing together Christian workers from both local and international oil companies.

Shola Idowu, National President of PICFI, explained that the organization includes members from major oil companies like Shell, Chevron, and Exxon Mobil, as well as government agencies under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. Idowu said, “Every year, we hold an annual prayer conference. This year, we are in Port Harcourt for the 20th conference, where we come together to seek God’s face and intercede for the industry and for Nigeria.”

Idowu emphasized that Nigeria’s economic struggles are a major concern, noting that politics and mismanagement have negatively impacted the oil and gas sector. He said, “We know what befell Nigeria is not ordinary. There is a place for God’s factor. With our prayers and right work standing with the Lord, we believe we can make a change.”

Idowu also made an appeal to the government and industry leaders to do what is right for Nigeria. “We plead under God, with the federal government and captains of the oil and gas industry to salvage Nigeria from destruction,” he added.

Reverend Collins Edebiri, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for PICFI, highlighted the role of corruption in Nigeria’s current struggles, especially in the oil and gas industry. He said, “The petroleum industry is a dynamic community. Leadership is a challenge. I keep saying it, corruption remains our biggest problem. If we all come together in righteousness, Nigeria has a big chance.”

Edebiri encouraged citizens to stay hopeful and to work with the government to improve the country, saying that Nigeria can flourish if everyone works together to eliminate corruption and uphold integrity in all aspects of life.
