The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a veterinary doctor, identified as David Tom for his alleged involvement in a burglary and theft of properties worth N24 million.
The spokesperson for the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest on Saturday and said the theft occurred on December 29, 2024, at River View Estate, Isheri Olofin.
According to Odutola, the arrest was made after a security guard at the estate reported the incident to the Ojodu Police Division.
“A security guard at River View Estate, Isheri Olofin, reported that on December 29, 2024, at approximately 9:30 am, he was informed by the estate chairman, Abayomi Akindele, that unidentified burglars had broken into the residence of Captain Anyanwu Emmanuel,” she said.
The homeowner, Captain Emmanuel, suspected David Tom, his veterinary assistant,of being involved in the crime.
Odutola explained that Tom had been entrusted with the gate key to care for security dogs in the compound while the homeowner was away.
“The homeowner suspected Tom David, his veterinary assistant, to whom he had entrusted the gate key to care for his security dogs while he travelled to the village,” Odutola stated.
The suspect had informed the homeowner on December 28, 2024 that the house had been burgled when he arrived at the property.
“The suspect informed the homeowner that upon arriving at the compound around 9:45 am, he discovered that the house had been burgled by unknown persons,” she said.
This report prompted the homeowner to return to the estate on December 30, 2024 only to discover that properties worth N24,961,200 had been stolen.
The police launched an investigation and tracked down the suspect, who was taken into custody for interrogation.
Odutola assured that the suspect would be charged in court after the preliminary investigation is completed.
“The suspect was tracked down and taken into custody for interrogation. He will be charged in court upon completion of the preliminary investigation,” she said.
