Ogun seals ten unapproved medical facilities

Published

The Ogun State Government has sealed 10 unapproved medical facilities and arrested six persons for quackery in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who led a medical team on the inspection, said the sealed facilities were operating without proper registration and qualified personnel.

“We discovered that some of these facilities were being operated by doctors and nurses who were not present at the time of our visit,” Coker stated.

The team also found that some of the facilities were operating outside their scope of practice, administering intravenous drugs and IV fluids without authorization.

We have apprehended six persons for quackery and handed them over to the police for prosecution,” Coker added.

The commissioner emphasized that the government will not tolerate the activities of quacks, particularly in border areas between Lagos and Ogun states.

We will continue to inspect medical facilities across the state and ensure that only qualified and registered practitioners are allowed to operate,” she declared.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Ogun State, Dr. Azim Ashimi, condemned the influx of quacks in the state, describing it as disheartening.

The presence of quacks in the health sector has led to needless loss of innocent lives,” Ashimi said.

He assured that the NMA is working with the government to curb the practice of quackery and protect the health of the public.
