The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 35-year-old woman and her 17-year-old physically disabled son for the murder of their neighbour.
According to The PUNCH, Godwin Ogbeifu, reportedly stabbed 60-year-old neighbour, Iyabo Olasheinde, in the neck while his mother, Mary Ogbeifu held the victim during a fight.
Confirming the report, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi on Friday said that the suspects have been arrested by the police at Ojodu Abiodun divisional headquarters.
Reports revealed that Godwin of Akoko Crescent, Yakoyo area of Ojodu went to the compound of the deceased at Omolara street Yakoyo on the day of the incident.
Neighbours were said to have chased him having previously been restricted from entering the compound.
Oyeyemi explained, “On getting home, he informed his mother who then followed him to the said compound where the deceased was met within the compound.
“While the mother was quarrelling with the deceased and demanding for the reason why her son was sent away, the son, who is deaf and dumb took a broken bottle which he brought with him and used it to stab the deceased on her neck.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO, Ojodu Abiodun, SP Eyitayo Akinluwade mobilised his men and moved to the scene, where the two suspects were apprehended and the victim rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment, but she was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.”
The PPRO added that the suspects have been transferred to the homicide section of the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation, on orders of the Commissioner of police Lanre Bankole.
“The Commissioner said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded,” Oyeyemi added.
