Ogun launches initiative to reduce maternal, newborn deaths

The Ogun State Government has unveiled a new initiative aimed at reducing maternal and newborn mortality rates through evidence-based interventions, community engagement, and improved healthcare systems.

The Maternal and Newborn Mortality Reduction Innovation and Initiative developed under the Sector-wide Approach from the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammadu Ali Pate, was officially presented to Governor Dapo Abiodun by health sector leaders.

Speaking at a five-day co-creation workshop for MAMII’s implementation, Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving survival rates for mothers and newborns.

Similarly, MAMII Team Lead, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, explained that the initiative would adopt context-specific solutions tailored to Ogun State’s unique challenges, ensuring sustainable improvements in maternal healthcare.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has urged personnel of the Amotekun Corps to uphold the highest standards of integrity, human rights respect, and dedication to duty in securing lives and property across the state.

Abiodun made this call while inaugurating 16 operational vehicles for the Corps at its Ogun State Command headquarters in Oke-Ilewo.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, the governor emphasized the need for collaboration with other security agencies to effectively combat crime.

The State Commandant of Amotekun, Brig.-Gen. Alade Adedigba (rtd), commended the governor for his continuous support, including the approval of 500 additional personnel to strengthen the security network’s operations.

In similar vein, Governor Abiodun also inspected ongoing road construction projects in Ogun East Senatorial District as part of his administration’s urban regeneration agenda.

Speaking during the inspection, the governor highlighted key achievements, including, the construction of a dry port to boost investment opportunities.

The completion of over 4,000 affordable housing units** for medium- and upper-income earners in Abeokuta, Ilaro, Sagamu, Iperu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ota and plans to extend the Blue Rail Line from Agbado to Kajola and the Red Line from Okokomaiko in Lagos to Agbara in Ogun State.

The Reconstruction of 11 economically significant roads across the state, with fairness and inclusivity in project distribution.

Governor Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustained infrastructure development, positioning Ogun as an investment-friendly state with modern transport and housing facilities.
