Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to provide electric motorcycles to the Nigeria Police Force to boost security operations across the state.

The governor revealed this during the opening of the 5th Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Abiodun explained that the electric motorcycles would enhance police mobility, especially in areas with challenging terrains.

In addition, he disclosed that the state government is partnering with a French company to introduce drones capable of detecting crimes from as far as 8,000 feet above ground.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of our people. That is why we are supporting the police with electric motorcycles for smoother operations. Also, we are working with a French company to bring in drones that can identify criminal activities from a height of 8,000 feet,” Abiodun said.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who also spoke at the event, directed all police commands to implement a solid plan to cut crime rates by 50% in 2025.

He emphasized that the theme of the 2025 Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers, ‘Improving Nigeria’s Internal Security and Economic Prosperity Through Inclusive Policing’, aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s security agenda.

According to Egbetokun, the focus is to build a police force that is professional, intelligence-driven, and capable of tackling modern security challenges.

“Our goal is to reduce crime rates by half this year. We will achieve this through strategic planning, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with state governments and other security agencies,” Egbetokun stated.

The event brought together senior police officers and security experts to discuss ways of improving internal security and boosting economic growth in Nigeria.
