The Ogun State Government has sealed Arolat Petrol Station, located along Ayetoro Roundabout Road in Abeokuta, over allegations of underground water pollution.

This was disclosed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, Farouk Akintunde.

Akintunde explained that the action followed a petition from Foursquare Gospel Church, situated next to the petrol station.

“The church reported that its only water source, a well, has been contaminated with Premium Motor Spirit,” Akintunde said.

He noted that the agency’s enforcement team sealed the petrol station to allow for a thorough investigation.

“We need to identify the affected areas, determine how far the contamination has spread, and assess the current condition of the underground water,” he added.

Akintunde stressed the agency’s commitment to public safety, saying, “As a responsive and responsible agency, the safety and wellbeing of our people is paramount and must not be compromised for any reason.”

The petrol station will remain closed until the investigation is completed.
