The Ogun State Government has announced that tolling operations will begin on the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway from Monday, March 24, 2025.

This move aims to support road maintenance, ensure smooth operations, and enhance road safety.

The 14.7km expressway had been in a poor state for years, making travel difficult and unsafe for road users. However, the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun reconstructed it into a modern expressway with updated facilities, including toll gates.

In a statement released by the Director-General of the Office of the Public-Private Partnerships, Dapo Oduwole, the government explained that tolling did not start immediately after the road’s completion due to the governor’s decision to prioritize the comfort of Ogun residents.

Oduwole said, “The reason for not tolling the road immediately upon its opening for use, despite its Public-Private Partnership arrangement, was based on the governor’s generosity and his commitment to making life easier for the people of Ogun State.”

He added that Governor Abiodun recognized the expressway as a key route for economic activities between Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, and Ogun State, which pushed for its quick completion.

“Abiodun, upon assumption of office and in the course of designing an effective and efficient transport system that will boost the micro-economy of the state, discovered the economic importance of the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway,” Oduwole stated.

The government assured road users that the expressway is equipped with all necessary facilities to make commuting smooth and convenient, urging motorists to comply fully with the tolling operations.

“We appeal for total compliance from all road users as this will help maintain the road and provide better services,” Oduwole concluded.
